In this class, we’ll write poems and draw comics with a focus on autumn, and the goal of making eight short haiku comic strips. For eight Sunday sessions, we'll meet online and look at notable examples of classic and contemporary haiku, and then learn a comics-making technique. A prompt will be given to help you write a haiku during class. You’ll be given an assignment to draw a short haiku comic which we will begin to work on during class, and which you can continue to work on outside of class. Students will be able to share their work privately online, if they wish, to receive instructor and classmate feedback. All skill levels are welcome.

Art supplies needed:
Pencils, paper, a ruler, an eraser, inking pens, (or a digital drawing platform).

Art supplies suggested:
There will be some watercolor instruction in this class, so you may want to have watercolor paints, watercolor paper, and brushes, but these are optional.

Technology needed:
• A computer or device that can work with Zoom. Class meetings will happen on Zoom.
• Recordings of the sessions will be made available afterward.
• A scanner or camera would be useful for sharing work online.
