The Basics of Making Comics - an online class with David Lasky
The Basics of Making Comics - an online class with David Lasky
Comics (or “Graphic Novels”) are a powerful way to tell stories and convey information. Making them is easier than you might think. In this class, we’ll start from square one and learn to draw with simple shapes, create lettering, and work with symbols used in comics. We’ll design characters, give them facial expressions, place them in action poses. We’ll also begin to create stories, humorous comic strips, and poems in graphic novel form. Students will gain a better understanding of visual communication, both as readers and writers. Prior drawing experience is not as important as a desire to communicate one’s ideas.
Supplies: Paper, Pencil, Eraser.
Optional Supplies: Sketchbook, Ruler.
Students will have the option of sharing their work with the class on a private web page.
Six 2-hour sessions
Saturdays, 1-3pm (East Coast), 10am-12noon (Pacific)
Dates: June 20, 27, July 18, 25, August 1, 8.
All classes will take place on Zoom, and will be recorded in case you can’t make it to a session - or would like to watch a second time.
